Balneario de Nuestra Señora de la Palma y del Real in Cádiz is a very striking piece of architecture — it looks amazing from the outside and it’s also known for appearing in *Die Another Day* (James Bond filming locations). That said, my experience in **January 2026** was a bit unusual: there were homeless people living underneath, and they clearly had objections to tourists taking photos, which made the vibe feel a little uncomfortable at times. So it’s a mixed one — **interesting and worth seeing**, but the atmosphere can depend a lot on what’s happening around it.

    Closed, run-down building

Certainly the most memorable building in Cadiz. Both delicate and fanciful, it stands on sandy beach. Quite charismatic.

On La Caleta beach, the most striking building is undoubtedly the Nuestra Señora de La Palma y del Real spa. Today, it is one of Cádiz's most representative buildings, constructed in the early decades of the 20th century. Both the main body of the building and its two large parallel wings seem to embrace La Caleta beach, providing welcome shade on hot, sunny days. After a long period of neglect, efforts have been made to restore the building for public use, but it currently serves purely administrative purposes. It houses the headquarters of the Center for Underwater Archaeology of the Andalusian Institute of Historical Heritage. This is hardly surprising, as the area around La Caleta beach has yielded the largest number of historical remains in the entire city of Cádiz. Many of these artifacts are now housed in the Museum of Cádiz.

The Balneario de Nuestra Señora de la Palma y del Real, popularly known as the Balneario de Cádiz, is a historic building located on La Caleta Beach and declared a Site of Cultural Interest. Built in 1926, it is an architectural icon in the Neoclassical style with regionalist influences. Taking advantage of the seawater of La Caleta, it functions as a thalassotherapy and spa center for therapeutic treatments.
